The disbandment of the national legislature ushers in a new phase of political proceedings, as the nation with a population exceeding 240 million will now be overseen by an interim administration until the upcoming general elections.

The National Assembly’s dissolution occurring three days before its official term ending on August 12 provides a 90-day window for conducting elections. However, this time, there’s speculation that the elections might be postponed until Spring 2024, as several ministers have indicated.

With the dissolution of the National Assembly, the ruling coalition will proceed to announce the next caretaker prime minister. Former ambassador Jalil Jilani is touted as a leading contender for this significant position.
