Persistent Cloudy and Foggy Weather Across Most of Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted predominantly cold and cloudy weather in the upper and western regions of the country. The northern areas are anticipated to encounter very cold temperatures, with northern Balochistan and western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa likely to receive rain, potentially turning into snow over mountainous areas.

In addition to this, light rain is expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir during the evening/night. The PMD also warned of dense smog/fog persisting in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.

Contrary to social media rumors circulating about severe cold weather from January 12 to 15, the PMD recently refuted these claims. Several social media accounts with large followings falsely asserted that the country would experience the coldest weather in a century.

The Met Department categorically denied these rumors, emphasizing that the current cold weather is primarily attributed to fog causing a drop in temperatures. Deputy Director of the Met Department, Irfan Virk, clarified that there is no truth to the sensational claims on social media.
