Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar conducted an urgent meeting in Islamabad on Sunday to address the escalating public dissatisfaction over exorbitant electricity bills. The meeting was organized in response to nationwide protests and mounting anger about the soaring electricity charges.
The gathering lasted for two hours, and Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Murtaza Solangi, indicated that a press release would be issued shortly to inform the media about the discussed measures.
The emergency meeting was prompted by the recent surge in nationwide protests triggered by the shockingly high electricity bills that households received this month. The unexpected increase in billing, coupled with the continuous rise in taxes, has fueled widespread frustration among the public, who fear severe financial repercussions.

Amid the turmoil, the threat of extensive protests and potential civil disobedience hangs in the air, emphasizing the urgency of addressing these grievances.
Key officials from relevant entities, including the power ministry and distribution companies, attended the meeting. The Ministry of Electricity presented the Prime Minister with insights into electricity transmission and rates, while distribution companies provided detailed briefings.
The discussions are expected to focus on providing substantial relief to consumers concerning electricity bills.
In parallel, Amir Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Siraj-ul-Haq, announced a nationwide strike scheduled for September 2. The strike aims to protest against fuel bills and inflation. JI plans to mobilize people across the country, with the leader asserting that citizens will take to the streets from Karachi to Chitral to protest against the interim government’s policies.
During an emergency meeting, JI reviewed the country’s political situation and discussed ways to escalate the ongoing movement against inflation. The party is also considering organizing a sit-in in Islamabad to oppose the substantial increase in electricity tariffs.
