PM Shehbaz and Dar pledge support for Pakistani students in Bishkek

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar expressed serious concerns on Saturday regarding the violence in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, which has impacted Pakistani students there. They have instructed Pakistan’s Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Hasan Ziagham, to provide comprehensive support to the affected students.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated, “I am deeply concerned about our students in Bishkek. I have told our ambassador to provide all necessary help.” He assured the public that his office is in regular contact with the embassy and closely monitoring the evolving situation.

In addition, PM Shehbaz personally called the Pakistani ambassador in Kyrgyzstan. During the call, he emphasized that all possible assistance should be extended to Pakistani students amid the ongoing violence. He directed Ambassador Ziagham to visit the students’ hostels and engage with them directly to assess their needs.

The ambassador informed the prime minister that no Pakistani student had died in the incident and that the embassy was actively aiding those who were injured. PM Shehbaz stressed the importance of maintaining constant communication with the students’ parents and providing them with timely updates.

The prime minister instructed the embassy to ensure that injured students receive all necessary medical care. He also ordered immediate arrangements for the return of any injured students who wished to go back to Pakistan, with the government covering their travel expenses.

PM Shehbaz reassured the nation that he was personally overseeing the situation in Kyrgyzstan and vowed that Pakistani students would not be left unattended during this crisis. He also mentioned that the Pakistani government was in contact with Kyrgyz authorities to address the issue.

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar echoed these sentiments, expressing grave concern over the reports of mob attacks on students in the Kyrgyz Republic. He stated, “The reports of mob attacks on students in the Kyrgyz Republic are extremely concerning. We have established contact with the Kyrgyz authorities to ensure the protection of Pakistani students. I have instructed our ambassador to Kyrgyzstan to fully facilitate them.”

The coordinated efforts of the prime minister and foreign minister underscore the Pakistani government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its students abroad during this turbulent time.
