PM Shehbaz Encourages Further Qatari Investment in Pakistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a written message from Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, highlighting avenues to strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and Qatar. The message, conveyed by Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, also emphasized potential areas for collaboration and development.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif expressed his government’s desire for Qatar to expand its investment footprint in Pakistan, particularly in priority sectors. He offered facilitation through the Special Investment Facilitation Council to support Qatar’s investment endeavors.

Dr Al-Khulaifi also held discussions with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations, trade, and investment, with specific attention to cooperation in energy, mining, and aviation sectors.

Regarding the May 9 events, the Foreign Office reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding the law and ensuring accountability for those involved in the disturbances. Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch emphasized that Pakistan’s judicial system would adhere to the country’s laws and Constitution, ensuring due process and justice for all detainees, including former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Baloch reaffirmed Pakistan’s sovereignty in its domestic affairs, asserting that external directions were unnecessary concerning the country’s legal framework.
