PMD Forecasts Increased Monsoon Rainfall Across Pakistan

Monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are expected to enter the upper and central areas of the country on the 18th of July and to accelerate on the 19th, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Rain/wind-thundershower (heavy falls) are expected in Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur), Gilgit Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi

Rain/wind-thunderstorms are also anticipated from the 19th to the 21st of July in Barkhan, Loralai, Kalat, Khuzdar, Zhob, Lasbella, Awaran, Musakhel, D.G Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, Larkana, and Jacobabad.

From the 19th to the 23rd of July, dust-thunderstorms/rain (with isolated heavy falls) are expected in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu districts. Dust-thunderstorm/rain (with isolated heavy falls) is expected from the 20th to the 22nd of July in the districts of Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Sanghar, Badin, Thatta, and Karachi, with occasional intervals.

Heavy rain may cause urban floods in low-lying districts of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Lahore from the 18th to the 22nd of July, as well as landslides in vulnerable areas of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly sections of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Farmers are encouraged to schedule their activities based on weather forecasts. Tourists and travelers are advised to exercise extra caution during the wet season to avoid any regrettable events.

A dust storm/wind-thunderstorm may cause damage to unsecured structures such as electric poles and solar panels. During a windstorm or severe rain, the general public is recommended to seek shelter in a safe location.

During the forecast time, all relevant agencies have been advised to remain vigilant and take the required precautions.
