PPP Symbolically Boycotts Punjab Budget Over Inclusion Issues

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has symbolically boycotted the Punjab Assembly session for the 2024-25 budget presentation, citing exclusion from budget consultations. This protest underscores growing political tensions within the province, as only two PPP members attended the session.

PPP leader Syed Ali Haider Gilani voiced the party’s dissatisfaction with the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN), stating that the PPP was not involved in crucial budget discussions. “We were not consulted in the preparation of the budget, and under these circumstances, we cannot support the government’s financial plan,” Gilani said, highlighting the party’s position.

The symbolic boycott reflects the PPP’s disapproval of the budget process, which they argue lacks inclusivity and collaboration. Despite their minimal presence in the session, this gesture sends a clear message of dissent towards the PMLN’s unilateral approach to budget formulation.

This development occurs amid broader political dynamics in Punjab, where inter-party cooperation is essential for effective governance. The PPP’s symbolic protest aims to emphasize the need for collaborative efforts in policy-making, especially regarding significant fiscal decisions affecting the province’s future.
