PTCL Names Captain (Retd) Muhammad Mahmood as Chairman

The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has announced the appointment of Captain (retd) Muhammad Mahmood as its new chairman, replacing Mr. Hassan Nasir Jamy, effective from April 1, 2024. The company made this announcement in a filing to the main bourse.

Captain (retd) Muhammad Mahmood, the new chairman of PTCL, currently holds the position of Additional Secretary (Incharge) at the Ministry of IT & Telecom.

Additionally, PTCL also updated its list of active Board of Directors, which includes the following members:

1. Capt. (Retd.) Muhammad Mahmood – Chairman

2. Abdulrahim A. Al Nooryani – Director

3. Ahad Khan Cheema – Director

4. Imdad Ullah Bosal – Director

5. Jawad Paul Khawaja – Director

6. Mikhail Gerchuk – Director

7. Mohamed Karim Bennis – Director

8. Brooke Marie Lindsay – Director

9. Khalid Murshed – Director

This announcement comes shortly after the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) disclosed that the pre-merger application for PTCL’s acquisition of Telenor Pakistan is still under review. The CCP had previously requested additional information on March 20, 2024, in order to complete its due diligence. However, the requested information is still pending submission by PTCL’s lawyers.

Once all the required information is provided, the CCP has 30 working days to complete its due diligence. The 30-day timeframe for the first phase review will commence once PTCL’s lawyers submit the outstanding information requested by the Commission.

It’s worth noting that the CCP’s merger department is currently processing 21 applications, including the acquisition of Telenor by PTCL.

Captain (Retd) Muhammad Mahmood has completed his M.Phil. in Public Policy from Australian National University, Canberra and Master of Science in Development Economics, IDS from University of Sussex, United Kingdom.

The new PTCL chairman presently also holds the position of Additional Secretary (Incharge) Ministry of IT & Telecom.He has completed his M.Phil. in Public Policy from Australian National University, Canberra and Master of Science in Development Economics, IDS from University of Sussex, United Kingdom.
