PTI has distanced Imran Khan from a post regarding the 1971 war, clarifying its political context

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has clarified that party founding chairman Imran Khan is not personally involved in the controversial tweet about the 1971 war and the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report.

In defense of Imran Khan, PTI chairman Barrister Gohar stated that Khan does not individually approve every tweet or video posted from his account. He emphasized that the recent tweet about the 1971 war was made in a political context and was not directed at the armed forces. Gohar further explained that not all posts are personally endorsed by Imran Khan, and that the tweet in question was shared to provide insight into political factors. He reiterated that their narrative is based on political events.

The clarification from PTI comes after widespread criticism of a tweet from Imran Khan’s official account regarding the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report and the events of 1971. The tweet claimed that all 12 copies of the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report had been stolen or destroyed and implied a resemblance between those historical events and the current military-civilian relationship.

Imran Khan’s post faced significant backlash, particularly from government officials. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accused Imran Khan of defaming the Pakistan Army, while leaders of the PML-N and PPP likened the tweet to misleading the youth amid growing polarization.
