PTI Reveals Candidates For Peshawar Seats In Elections 2024

Ahead of the upcoming general elections on February 8, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has unveiled its slate of candidates for seats in both the national and provincial assemblies in Peshawar.

Shandana Gulzar has been put forth by PTI as the nominee for the NA-30 constituency, while Sajid Nawaz, Arbab Amir, Arbab Sher Ali, and Asif Khan have been designated as PTI candidates for various constituencies in Peshawar.

Addressing concerns raised by PTI leader Taimur Khan Jhagra on December 27, 2023, the party clarified that Sher Afzal Marwat will not be receiving a PTI ticket in Peshawar. Jhagra had contended that it would be more fitting for a Peshawar-based leader to contest from the NA-32 constituency. In response, Marwat asserted that he had been directed by the PTI founder to contest from Peshawar.

The list of PTI candidates for provincial seats in Peshawar includes Mehmood Jan, Taimur Jhagra, Kamran Bangash, Arbab Jehandad, Fazal Elahi, Hamidul Haq, Asim Khan, Mina Khan, Ali Zaman, Malik Shahab, Samiullah, Sher Ali Afridi, and Noreen Arif.

In a significant development on January 10, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) reinstated the PTI’s electoral symbol ‘bat,’ overturning the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that had declared the intra-party election null and void and revoked the ‘bat’ symbol. The court deemed the ECP’s decision incorrect and directed the electoral watchdog to issue a certificate to PTI, restoring the party’s symbol.
