PTI Seeks COAS Gen Munir's Intervention for Leaders' Release and Mandate Acceptance

Barrister Gohar Khan, a senior leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has demanded the release of the party’s “political prisoners,” including its founder, Imran Khan, in response to Chief of the Army Staff General Asim Munir’s statement about a “healing touch” following the general elections.

Gen Munir’s statement, emphasizing the need for stable governance and national unity, was welcomed by Barrister Gohar, who interpreted the “healing touch” as an indication that there should be no political prisoners in the country.

In an interview with Arab News, Gohar highlighted the importance of respecting the PTI’s electoral mandate and expressed the party’s intention to contest the results in several constituencies where they suspect manipulation.

Gohar also claimed that PTI-backed independent candidates won in a significant number of constituencies, suggesting strong support for the party across the country.

Regarding the delay in the announcement of election results by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Gohar warned of peaceful protests if the results were not announced promptly.

He also hinted at potential legal action to challenge Imran Khan’s convictions, expressing optimism about his release in the near future.

Gohar emphasized the PTI’s strong position in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and expressed confidence in forming the government at the federal and provincial levels.
