Local villagers killed a rare white leopard within the boundaries of Kerthar National Park, and the incident occurred on Monday night.

The Sindh Wildlife Department (SWD) responded promptly, registering a case against five individuals involved in the killing. The leopard was shot dead around 12:30 am, and images of the incident circulated on social media, leading to public outrage.

The body of the rare white leopard was discovered in the village of Mohammad Ali Faqeer, falling within the jurisdiction of taluka Thano Bola Khan. Deputy Conservator Shaikh confirmed the unprecedented nature of the incident, highlighting that a white leopard had never been sighted in Kerthar National Park before.

He speculated that the leopard might have migrated from Balochistan, as the last recorded sighting of a leopard in the area dates back to 1976. The SWD plans to transfer the leopard’s body to Hyderabad, where it will be presented before the court. After obtaining necessary permissions, preservation procedures will be initiated by the department.
