On September 1, 1965, in the Chamb Sector, Rafiqui and his fellow pilots successfully downed three of the four Indian Air Force (IAF) planes that were flying at a great height of 20,000 feet.

Later, on September 6, while defending Lahore, Rafiqui was given instructions to strike the Indian Air Base at Halwara. Rafiqui, piloting a squadron of four PAF fighter planes, bravely took part in the mission.

After shooting down an Indian fighter, Rafiqui boldly carried out the attack and selflessly shielded his fellow pilots despite his aircraft’s machine gun malfunctioning.

Rafiqui received the renowned “Hilal-i-Juraat” and “Sitara-i-Jurrat” posthumously from the government in honour of his outstanding performance and unequalled bravery. The PAF honours the sacrifices made by heroes who, like Rafiqui, showed unshakable courage and a commitment to protecting their nation. Their heroic deeds serve as an example for younger generations and are proof of the military’s unwavering spirit.
