Senate Panel Informed: 23,456 Pakistanis Incarcerated in Jails Abroad

According to data presented by the foreign ministry to the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights, over 23,000 Pakistanis are currently in foreign prisons, including more than 15,000 convicts. Saudi Arabia has the highest number of Pakistani prisoners, with 12,156 individuals in jails, followed by 5,292 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and 706 in India.

According to the data, 23,456 Pakistani citizens were imprisoned in foreign countries, including 15,587 convicts and 7,869 under-trial prisoners. Other countries with Pakistani prisoners include Qatar, Iraq, Bahrain, Kuwait, Turkey, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Iran, China, Greece, the United Kingdom, Italy, and the United States. The committee discussed the Prisoner Transfer Agreement and directed the foreign ministry to create a uniform consular protection policy within 90 days.
