As the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government and its allies near the end of their tenure, outgoing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and opposition members have yet to agree on the caretaker setup. To finalize the selection, Shehbaz Sharif will have crucial discussions with Opposition leader Raja Riaz today. If the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) members cannot reach a consensus, the matter will be referred to a parliamentary body.
The meeting between Sharif and Raja Riaz is scheduled for 3:30 pm today. The Prime Minister is expected to propose three names for the caretaker Prime Minister, while the opposition leader will also present a list of three potential candidates.
On a related note, President Arif Alvi approved the dissolution of the National Assembly three days before the completion of the government’s term. This decision was made based on the advice of PM Shehbaz Sharif, and the dissolution was executed under Article 58(1), as stated in the issued statement from the Presidency.
