Siddiqui Named MQM-P Chairman

In a significant development, the MQM-P unanimously appointed Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, its convener, as the party’s chairman on Sunday, signaling a further departure from its founder’s influence. The decision was made during a meeting of the party’s central committee at Pakistan House, chaired by Siddiqui himself, according to an MQM-P spokesperson.

Notable party leaders including Mustafa Kamal, Dr. Farooq Sattar, Nasreen Jalil, Anis Kaimkhani, Faisal Subzwari, Aminul Haque, and Rizwan Babar were present at the gathering. During the meeting, it was decided to abolish the post of convener and revert to the earlier structure consisting of a chairman, vice chairman, and secretary generals.

Subsequently, Siddiqui was unanimously elected as the party’s chairman by members of the core committee. Moreover, the formation of a high-level central council to handle organizational matters and provide assistance with political affairs was decided upon.

The MQM-P spokesperson mentioned that the names of the central council members would be announced in the near future. Back in March, the MQM-P had dissolved its coordination committee as part of a reorganization initiative and established a seven-member ad-hoc body led by Siddiqui to oversee the party’s affairs.

However, insiders suggested that the primary reason behind this move was two audio leaks involving Mustafa Kamal and Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, both MQM-P leaders. Kamal had alleged that a member of the coordination committee was responsible for the leaks.
