Lawyer and MNA Sher Afzal Marwat has garnered attention this week for his firm refusal to succumb to family pressure and take on a second wife solely to ensure the birth of a son. Marwat’s stance earned widespread praise on social media, with actor Sonya Hussyn joining in to commend his principled stand.

“In this harsh society we inhabit, I hold immense respect for this man,” Hussyn expressed on her Instagram reel. “He embodies the values of human decency and fundamental principles of relationships.”

Marwat had revealed on Nadir Hussain’s podcast that he had faced familial pressure to enter into a second marriage with the expectation of fathering a son. However, he explained that he couldn’t subject his wife to the anguish of sharing her husband with another woman. “I couldn’t introduce another woman into our lives just to fulfill the desire for a child,” Marwat had asserted. “A woman, like anyone else, has only one life. She has sacrificed everything in her life to start anew with you.”

Reflecting on Marwat’s decision, Hussyn decried society’s biased emphasis on having a male heir. “Marriage solely for the purpose of bearing a son is inherently unjust,” she underscored. Yet, she commended Marwat for his unwavering loyalty to his wife and emphasized how his steadfast commitment and family values would shield his daughters from potential hardship. “By making this choice, he not only honored his wife but also safeguarded his daughters from a lifetime of suffering,” she penned. “I have no doubt that his daughters will bring him immense pride one day.” Hussyn concluded her post with a final note of admiration, “Respect, sir.”
