South Korea Protests Russia's Growing Ties with North Korea

South Korea has expressed its “grave position” regarding Russia’s increasing military cooperation with North Korea during a meeting between South Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Chung Byung-won and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Rudenko.

Chung urged Russia to take “responsible actions,” emphasizing concerns about Moscow’s collaboration with Pyongyang. This diplomatic exchange follows Moscow’s spokesperson Maria Zakharova blaming the United States and its allies, including South Korea, for heightened tensions on the Korean peninsula.

Russia’s closer ties with North Korea have raised alarms in Seoul and Washington, with accusations of weapons shipments. South Korea recently protested Zakharova’s “rude, ignorant” comments by summoning the Russian ambassador. The situation adds strain to the already complex geopolitical landscape in the region.
