Ashwin made this surprise decision after the rain-affected third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Brisbane ended in a draw. Reflecting on his illustrious career, the 38-year-old spinner shared, “It has been an incredible ride, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to represent my country at the highest level.”
Babar, who is currently leading Pakistan in their all-format series against South Africa, took to Instagram to honor Ashwin’s remarkable career. He wrote, “Congratulations on an incredible career, Ravichandran Ashwin,” highlighting the respect shared among top cricketers from across the border.

Ashwin bows out of international cricket as one of India’s greatest bowlers, having claimed 537 wickets in 106 Test matches at an exceptional average of 24. He is India’s second-highest wicket-taker in Tests, behind only the legendary Anil Kumble. Ashwin’s versatility also shone in his batting, with 3503 runs, including six centuries and 14 half-centuries, placing him among an elite group of cricketers who have scored over 3000 runs and taken more than 300 wickets in Test cricket.
In addition to his Test achievements, Ashwin’s impact was felt in white-ball cricket, where he picked up 156 wickets in 116 ODIs and 72 wickets in 65 T20Is. Known for his intelligence and adaptability, Ashwin leaves behind a legacy that will inspire future generations of cricketers.
