Former Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad has strongly criticized Mohammad Rizwan’s captaincy following Pakistan’s 5-wicket defeat to New Zealand in the Tri-Nation Series final. He questioned the team’s decision-making, particularly their choice to bat first despite conditions favoring chasing teams.
Shehzad labeled the decision as “brainless,” arguing that Pakistan’s strategy lacked planning. He pointed out that the team seemed to rely on opposition mistakes rather than playing to their own strengths, which could prove costly in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Pakistan’s batting struggles continued in the final, with Babar Azam failing to make an impact. The team managed only 242 runs, which New Zealand comfortably chased down with Tom Latham and Daryl Mitchell scoring crucial half-centuries.
As the Champions Trophy approaches, Shehzad warned that if Pakistan does not address these tactical errors, they could struggle in high-stakes matches. He urged Rizwan and the management to rethink their approach before the tournament begins.
