Former pacer Mohammad Amir has criticized Babar Azam’s position as an ODI opener, insisting the star batter is more effective at No. 3.

“Babar’s strength is at No. 3, where he knows how to construct an innings,” Amir stated, emphasizing the need for clearly defined batting roles in longer formats.

Mohammad Hafeez also opposed Babar’s promotion, suggesting Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, or Shan Masood should partner Fakhar Zaman instead.

Babar’s recent struggles in the tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa have fueled concerns ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
