Azhar Mahmood

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named former all-rounder Azhar Mahmood as the interim head coach of the national red-ball team, the board announced on Monday. His appointment comes with a short-term contract, as the PCB continues its search for a permanent coaching setup.

Azhar’s promotion is seen as a move to ensure continuity within the team, given his past role as assistant coach and his strong rapport with current players. The PCB stated that his “performance, familiarity with the players, and understanding of the team’s dynamics” made him the ideal interim choice.

PCB sources revealed that the search for a permanent red-ball head coach is ongoing and a final decision will be made after the current evaluation phase concludes.
