‘Honour to Lead’: Babar Azam Resigns as Pakistan's White-Ball Captain

Pakistan batter Babar Azam has chosen to resign as the national team’s white-ball captain after the disappointing outcome of the T20 World Cup 2024.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Babar shared, “Dear Fans, I have some news to share today.” He continued, “I have decided to step down as captain of the Pakistan men’s cricket team, effective from my notification to the PCB and Team Management last month. Leading this team has been an honor, but now it’s time for me to focus on my playing role.”

“Being captain has been a fulfilling experience, but it has also come with a considerable workload. I want to focus on my performance, enjoy my batting, and spend quality time with my family, which brings me happiness,” Azam stated.

He stated, “By resigning, I will have more clarity as I move forward and can dedicate more energy to my game and personal development. I’m thankful for your steadfast support and belief in me; your enthusiasm has truly meant a lot.”

Azam added, “I take pride in our accomplishments together and look forward to continuing to contribute to the team as a player. Thank you for your love and support.”
