Kohli’s Controversy-Filled Australia Tour Takes Another Twist

Kohli

Virat Kohli’s tour of Australia has been marred by a series of controversies, both on and off the field, turning the trip into a challenging one for the Indian superstar. The latest chapter unfolded during the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), where Kohli was met with jeers from Australian fans.

The tension began on Day One after a shoulder-bump with Australian player Sam Konstas, leading the ICC to fine Kohli 20% of his match fees and issue a demerit point for a Level One violation of the code of conduct. The hostile reception on Day Two was a reflection of the earlier incident.

Despite the distractions, Kohli remained composed at the crease, scoring 36 runs off 86 balls, though a miscommunication with partner Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was run out for 82, appeared to rattle him. Kohli eventually edged a delivery to wicketkeeper Alex Carey, bringing his innings to an end.

On his way back to the pavilion, Kohli stopped to confront a group of Australian fans over alleged inappropriate remarks. The moment was captured on video and widely shared. Security had to escort him to the dressing room.

Despite Kohli’s dismissal, India mounted a strong recovery on Day Three, led by Nitish Kumar Reddy’s unbeaten century. Reddy’s 105 not out helped India reach 358/9, narrowing Australia’s first-innings lead to 116 runs.
