Multan Sultans Owner Ali Tareen Criticizes PSL Over Ali Zafar’s Selection

Multan Sultans’ owner, Ali Khan Tareen, has voiced strong criticism against the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for selecting Ali Zafar to perform the anthem for its 10th edition, raising concerns over the lack of diversity in artist choices.

Sharing his thoughts on Instagram, Tareen questioned PSL’s decision to repeatedly rely on Zafar, stating, “Pakistan has an incredible pool of talented artists, yet nearly half of PSL anthems have been given to the same middle-aged singer. Franchises have consistently raised concerns, but the league continues to recycle the same voices despite claiming to make this the biggest PSL ever.”

A Pattern of Familiarity

On Tuesday, PSL confirmed that Ali Zafar would perform the official anthem for PSL X, marking his fifth time as the league’s chosen artist. His previous anthems include Ab Khel Ke Dikha (2016), Ab Khel Jamay Ga (2017), Dil Se Jaan Laga De (2018), and Khul Ke Khel (2024), the latter marking his return after legal controversies involving singer Meesha Shafi.

Tareen’s remarks reflect a broader frustration with PSL’s reluctance to introduce fresh voices. Franchises have reportedly advocated for new talent in previous seasons, but the league has continued to bring back Zafar despite these objections.

PSL’s Response and Next Steps

Despite the criticism, PSL has not indicated any plans to reconsider its decision. The release date for Ali Zafar’s PSL 10 anthem remains undisclosed, while the tournament is set to begin on April 11.
