Rs1 Billion Legal War: Dr Nauman Strikes Back at Shoaib Akhtar

Shoaib Akhtar

The rift between former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar and TV host Dr Nauman Niaz has escalated once again—this time into a legal battle worth Rs1 billion. Dr Nauman has served a defamation notice to Shoaib over a controversial remark made during a TV appearance on May 25.

While on a sports programme titled The Dug Out, Shoaib claimed that Dr Nauman “used to carry our bags,” suggesting he was merely a support figure. The statement quickly went viral, prompting Dr Nauman to issue a legal notice, terming the comment “factually incorrect” and damaging to his professional reputation.

The notice, dated May 29, demands a public apology and retraction within 14 days or warns of legal action under the Defamation Ordinance 2002. It also highlights an alleged three-year pattern of disrespect from Shoaib, aiming to tarnish Dr Nauman’s career and legacy.

This isn’t the first time tensions between the two have made headlines. Back in October 2021, a live spat on PTV Sports ended with Shoaib resigning on air after being told to leave by Dr Nauman. PTV later issued a Rs100 million recovery notice against Shoaib.

Shoaib Akhtar has yet to respond to the latest legal notice, but given their stormy history, this public feud shows no signs of calming down anytime soon.
