Harry Brook Banned from IPL Until 2028 Following Late Withdrawal

England batter Harry Brook has been handed a two-year ban from participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) following his late withdrawal from the 2025 tournament, according to Indian media reports. Brook, who was set to represent Delhi Capitals this season, announced his decision to pull out on Sunday, marking his second consecutive absence from the competition. He cited the need to “recharge” and prioritize his international commitments with England as the primary reason.

In a statement shared on social media, Brook apologized to the Delhi Capitals and their fans, expressing his love for the game and explaining his decision. “I apologise unreservedly to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters. I love cricket. Ever since I was a young boy, I have dreamt of playing for my country, and I am extremely thankful to have the opportunity to play the game I love at this level,” he said.

Brook further emphasized the importance of his commitment to England’s upcoming cricketing schedule. “It is a really important time for England cricket, and I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series. In order to do this, I need time to recharge after the busiest period in my career to date,” he added.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reportedly informed both Brook and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) of the ban, which will last until 2028. A BCCI spokesperson explained that the ban is part of the IPL’s policy, which penalizes players for late withdrawals after registering for the auction.

Franchises were notified before the 2024 auction about the implementation of this policy, which aims to prevent overseas players from backing out at the last minute. Any player who withdraws after being bought in the auction will face a two-year ban from the tournament and future auctions, according to the policy.
