Cricket fans, brace yourselves the most anticipated rivalry in cricket could reignite as India and Pakistan are likely to clash on September 7, 2025 during the upcoming Asia Cup in the UAE, according to Times of India.
The report suggests the Asia Cup 2025 will kick off on September 5 and conclude with the final on September 21. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has almost finalized a 17-day window, with India vs Pakistan penciled in as the headline match during the group stages.
This edition of the Asia Cup will feature India (official hosts), Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and the UAE. The tournament will follow a group stage and Super Fours format, meaning there’s a strong chance the arch-rivals could meet twice the second encounter, possibly on September 14.
The timing is delicate. Relations between India and Pakistan further deteriorated following a four-day military conflict in May, and both sides remain politically tense. The conflict also cast doubt over bilateral sports engagements, which have been frozen since 2013. Since then, the two nations have only met during ICC tournaments or continental cups hosted in neutral venues.
Earlier this year, India declined to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, forcing all their matches, including the final on March 9, to be played in Dubai.
Despite ongoing political friction, sources say participating nations are now close to securing final clearances from their respective governments.
India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir made headlines in May when he expressed reluctance about playing Pakistan, even on neutral grounds, but clarified he would abide by the BCCI’s decision.
If confirmed, the Asia Cup 2025 could offer not just one, but two electrifying India-Pakistan matches, thrilling fans across the globe.
