Mohammad Amir Decides on Returning to Pakistan Team

Former Pakistan fast bowler, Mohammad Amir, currently playing for the Desert Vipers in the International League T20 (ILT20), has shared insights into his thoughts about a potential comeback to the Pakistan team. Amir expressed his dissatisfaction with the Pakistan team management when he initially announced his retirement from international cricket, asserting that their actions negatively impacted his image.

The left-arm pacer emphasized that his chances of returning to the national team are minimal, stating that he has moved on, and his focus is now on playing in franchise leagues worldwide. Having not played international cricket for three years, Amir acknowledged the complexities of returning to the dynamic landscape of the sport.

Amir highlighted the significant changes occurring in the Pakistan cricket system, noting that it evolves regularly. He pointed out that three years away from international cricket is a substantial period, and considering the constant changes in the cricketing environment, predicting the future becomes challenging.

The 31-year-old fast bowler firmly stated that, for him, the discussion about a potential comeback was over. After a three-year absence, Amir believes it would not be a wise decision to return, at least for now. He remains uncertain about what the future holds in the coming years.

Amir’s decision to retire from international cricket in 2020 surprised many cricket enthusiasts. He cited feeling unfairly treated by the then head coach, Misbah-ul-Haq, and the bowling coach, Waqar Younis, as one of the reasons for his retirement. Amir played a pivotal role as the main bowler for the Pakistan team, notably contributing to the team’s victory in the 2017 Champions Trophy final against India, where he took three crucial wickets.
