Pakistan clinches the 5th Asian Taekwondo Open Championship

Pakistan dominated the Poomsae event at the 5th Asian Taekwondo Championship, securing 14 gold, 11 silver, and 22 bronze medals. Saudi Arabia secured the second spot with one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, while Nepal took the third position with one gold. WTH (Refugee) claimed the fourth spot with one silver, and Iran finished fifth with one bronze.

On the championship’s second day, Pakistani athletes continued to excel. Ameer Hamza from Pakistan secured the first position in the men’s over-18 individual freestyle event with a score of 6.73. In the women’s over-18 individual freestyle, Pakistan’s Zymal Naqvi scored 4.56. The freestyle pair over 18, consisting of Ameer Hamza and Naila from Pakistan, clinched the gold medal with a score of 6.76. In the mixed team event, Pakistan’s Maryam, Usman, Waheed, Abbas, and Naqvi won the gold medal with a score of 6.26.

In the men’s under-50 freestyle, Ali Adnan from Saudi Arabia secured the first position with a score of 7.16. In the women’s under-50 freestyle individual competition, Pakistan’s Sana Sabir claimed the gold medal with a score of 6.23.

The championship commenced with a colorful ceremony at the Liaquat Gymnasium Hall of the Pakistan Sports Board. Players from 27 countries participated in the march past. The President of the Asian Taekwondo Union, Prof. Kyu Seok Lee, officially started the championship. The oath was administered to the participating players by the coach of Iran, the referee from Pakistan, and players from Great Britain and Nepal.

The Pakistan Taekwondo Federation athletes displayed an impressive demonstration of Taekwondo in front of the audience. Distinguished guests at the event included the President of the Asian Taekwondo Union, Prof. Kyu Seok Lee, Federal Secretary for Inter-Provincial Affairs Hanif Orakzai, Ambassador of Korea to Pakistan Park Ki-Jun, PTF President Colonel (retd) Waseem Janjua, Championship Technical Delegate Kook Hyun Jung, and CEO Omar Saeed, who distributed the prizes.
