Pakistani Cricketers Sue Australian Cricket League Sponsor

Pakistani cricketers Kamran Akmal and Mohammad Amir, who participated in the Aussie Cricket League (ACL) in December, have taken legal action against Tazwin Sports, a cricket gear manufacturer based in Melbourne and one of the league’s sponsors. The dispute arises from Tazwin Sports allegedly using unauthorized photos of Kamran and Amir in their promotional material on their website. The photos were edited to portray the cricketers endorsing Tazwin Sports’ bats, which led to the removal of another ACL sponsor’s name from the Pakistan team’s shirts.

Despite requests to remove the photos, Tazwin Sports claimed rights under their sponsorship agreement with the ACL organizers. However, Kamran and Amir argue that the sponsorship agreement only required payment and bats, which were not fulfilled. They are concerned that the unauthorized use of their images may negatively impact their reputations and sponsorship opportunities.

As a result, Kamran and Amir have filed a court case against Tazwin Sports, accusing them of misleading or deceptive conduct under Australian consumer law. The first hearing is scheduled for Monday in the Federal Court.
