Quiton de Kock’s quits ODI Cricket for Money

Quinton de Kock, a cricketer for South Africa, has announced his intent to stop playing in ODIs. De Kock, who has played cricket for South Africa for more than ten years, acknowledged that the financial allure of T20 leagues had been a major factor in his choice.

Although the player has represented the South African team loyally for 11 years, he stated that the financial benefits of T20 leagues are hard to overlook, particularly as he nears the end of his career. He insisted, however, that his first loyalty had always been towards his national team.

“T20 events – I am not going to deny that there is a lot of money and coming to the end of your career, guys want to get their final top-up before their career finishes. Any normal person would do it anyway,”

In addition to the financial considerations, de Kock listed his desire to spend quality time with his young family as another justification for quitting ODI sport. He decided to stop playing Test cricket almost two years ago, right before his daughter Kiara was born, in order to devote more time to his family.

De Kock has his sights fixed on the future despite the fact that his ODI career may be coming to an end. Even though it conflicts with South Africa’s white-ball series against India in December, he intends to play in the Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia.
