Rain-Hit Asian Games Cricket: Pakistan and India Women Secure Semifinal Spots

In the Twenty20 match versus Malaysia, India batted first and amassed 173-2 in their 15 overs despite being delayed by rain.

The play was called off with no conclusion after Malaysia faced just two balls and responded with a score of 1-0.

India progressed to the semi-final because of their higher world ranking.

The incessant showers meant Pakistan went through for the same reason against Indonesia in the later game without a ball being bowled as the covers remained on at the Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field.

In the Twenty20 match versus Malaysia, India batted first and amassed 173-2 in their 15 overs despite being delayed by rain.

The play was called off with no conclusion after Malaysia faced just two balls and responded with a score of 1-0.

India will compete in the final against the winner of Friday’s quarterfinal between Bangladesh and Hong Kong. In the last four, Pakistan will either play Sri Lanka or Thailand.

Malaysia was given the runaround in the field before to the washout as Jemimah Jessica Rodrigues struck an unbeaten 47 off 29 balls for India and star batter Shafali Verma hammered 67 off just 39 with five sixes and four fours.

According to Rodrigues, “the alliances we had with everyone clicked at the right time.”

Thusara Kodikara, the coach of Malaysia, expressed regret that his team’s hitters were unable to demonstrate their skills against India’s bowling staff.

The coach, who was born in Sri Lanka, expressed his team’s disappointment, saying, “We wanted to play and give our best in this tournament.”

“We are here to learn a lot from this kind of squad, but the weather prevents us from doing anything. We had no control over it, he declared.

In Guangzhou (2010) and Incheon (2014), when women’s cricket was played at the Asian Games, Pakistan won both gold medals. Five years ago, the Jakarta Asiad did not feature the sport.
