Zaka Ashraf opposes hybrid model, advocates for entire Asia Cup to be held in Pakistan

Zaka Ashraf, a potential candidate for the position of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, criticized the approved hybrid model for this year’s Asia Cup, calling it “injustice.” Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Ashraf expressed his disagreement with the model, which includes major matches being held outside of Pakistan while only minor teams play in the country.

He stated that as hosts, Pakistan should host the entire event. Although Ashraf’s election as PCB chairman is anticipated, it is yet to take place. He pledged to review the Asia Cup arrangements and make decisions in Pakistan’s best interest. While there has been no official response from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) or the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), it is unlikely that further modifications will be made to the hybrid model. The model includes four matches in Pakistan and nine in Sri Lanka.

The PCB Interim Management Committee, led by Najam Sethi, had agreed to this arrangement after the BCCI refused to send its team to Pakistan. Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Ehsan Ur Rehman Mazari stated that the PCB election commissioner would oversee affairs until the new chairman is elected. He urged India to stop politicizing cricket and expressed his belief that if India doesn’t come to Pakistan, Pakistan should reciprocate and not visit India. Mazari also emphasized that decisions made by the PCB Interim Management Committee after June 19 have no standing.
