Supreme Court urged to address petrol price surge via suo motu

An application was lodged with the Supreme Court’s Human Rights Cell, urging the initiation of a suo motu inquiry into the recent escalation in petroleum product prices. The application was filed by local advocate Mudassar Chaudhry.

The plea highlighted that mounting inflation and petroleum price hikes are pushing the economically disadvantaged to the point of committing suicide, asserting that every citizen holds the right to life.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Finance announced a Rs17.50 per liter rise in petrol prices, setting it at Rs290.45. High-speed diesel also witnessed an increase of Rs20 per liter, reaching Rs293.40.
