China Reveals Two Advanced Tailless Stealth Combat Aircraft

China

China has unveiled two new tailless stealth combat aircraft designs, marking a significant advancement in its next-generation fighter program. The two aircraft, currently undergoing flight testing, have drawn attention after images surfaced on social media.

The designs are attributed to rival Chinese aircraft manufacturers Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC) and Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (SAC). The first, a larger diamond-shaped jet from Chengdu, was revealed on December 26, 2024, coinciding with the anniversary of the Chengdu J-20’s first appearance. Hours later, a smaller tailless design from Shenyang was also seen.

Both aircraft feature no traditional tail surfaces, enhancing their stealth capabilities and reducing radar signatures. The Chengdu design is believed to have a three-engine setup and may be part of the JH-XX program, intended as a tactical fighter-bomber. The Shenyang aircraft, with a twin-engine design, is likely a fighter intended for air superiority.

The development of these aircraft follows China’s broader strategy to modernize its air force and strengthen its position in regional air combat. With flight testing underway, experts believe these designs could play a key role in the future of China’s military aviation.
