Facebook Users in Germany Eligible for Data Misuse Compensation

Facebook

Germany’s Federal Court of Justice has ruled that Facebook users whose data was misused between 2018 and 2019 can claim compensation without proving financial losses.

This follows a 2021 breach that exposed user data through Facebook’s friend search feature. Claims dismissed earlier by a Cologne court will now be re-evaluated.

The court suggested a compensation amount of around €100 for affected users, while Meta denies responsibility, citing no data breach in the incident.

The case highlights ongoing scrutiny of Meta’s data protection policies in Germany.
