The committee was apprised that stringent actions will be implemented against non-filers, which may include the disconnection of utilities such as electricity and gas, along with the blocking of mobile SIM cards. The FBR Chairman emphasized that if individuals do not file their tax returns within 30 days of receiving a notice, legal actions will be initiated.

Furthermore, the FBR has obtained data from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and other third parties to identify non-filers. Notices are being dispatched, and information on home addresses and property investments is being collected.

The FBR aims to increase the number of tax filers to 7 million this year. While the total number of registered taxpayers in the country is approximately 10.15 million, encompassing both the salaried class and businessmen, only 5.3 million of them currently file tax returns.Top of Form
