Google Admits Its Search Engine Isn't Working That Well

For a long time, Google users have relied on appending the phrase “Reddit” to their search searches in order to find relevant resources connected to specific questions.

However, the effectiveness of this technique was harmed earlier this month when several Reddit boards went offline. Moderators of several major forums took their pages private in response to considerable outrage over Reddit’s proposal to charge developers for data access.

As a result, many pages in the search results became unavailable or unhelpful, making it difficult for people to find the information they were looking for.

To solve this issue, Google revealed on Monday a new tool called Perspectives, which aims to ameliorate the problem. In the United States, the Perspectives tab is now available on mobile web and the Google app.

Earlier this month, Google’s Senior Vice President of Search, Prabhakar Raghavan, informed employees that the company was actively working on improving search results to provide users with helpful resources without the need to explicitly include “Reddit” in their searches.

Raghavan recognised customers’ dissatisfaction with their search experience and assured them that Google was working to improve it.

Google is continually working to modernise its search skills in order to remain competitive and capitalise on the most recent advances in generative artificial intelligence. This means responding to text-based enquiries in a more nuanced and conversational manner.

Google revealed its ongoing testing with Search Generative Experience at its annual developer conference in May. While this effort is not yet available to all users, it intends to give more complete and informative results powered by generative AI technology.

Additionally, Google introduced Bard, a competitor to ChatGPT, earlier this year. Bard, on the other hand, runs independently of search and is still in the testing phase
