Google Messages, the default messaging app on many Android phones worldwide, is finally catching up with the edit button trend. While the feature is not officially rolled out yet, reports from an X user named AssembleDebug indicate that the edit feature is in the works and may soon be available to users.
To access the edit feature, users will need to enable certain flags in the app’s beta version. Once enabled, users will have a thirty-minute window to edit messages after sending them. However, after this time frame, editing will no longer be possible. Additionally, the app will maintain a history of all edits made to a message through the message history feature.

To edit a message, users can simply hold down the text they wish to edit, and a pencil icon will appear, enabling editing. It’s important to note that message editing will only work with RCS messaging over Wi-Fi and will not be available for SMS texts.
While Google has yet to officially announce the feature or provide a launch date, the readiness of the feature suggests that an announcement could be imminent. Users eagerly awaiting this functionality can expect it to arrive on their Google Messages app in the near future.
