The federal government is on the brink of finalizing the National Space Rules, a significant step in the implementation of the National Space Policy in Pakistan. Following extensive consultations with key stakeholders, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of IT and Telecom, PEMRA, SPARCO, and other essential entities, these regulations are set to receive official approval.
The primary objective of the National Space Rules is to establish the groundwork for the National Space Agency (NSA) as outlined in the National Space Policy. These rules will delineate the composition and powers of the NSA, offering a comprehensive framework for its operational procedures.

Upon the approval of the rules and the subsequent establishment of the NSA, a streamlined registration process for satellites will be initiated. Satellites registered with the NSA will then be eligible to obtain licenses from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, marking a significant achievement in the nation’s space capabilities.
The National Space Policy aims to simplify the registration process for satellites. Instead of navigating through multiple government agencies, satellite operators will only need to engage with the National Space Agency for registration. Once the NSA grants registration to satellites, operators can access services from these registered satellites after obtaining necessary clearances from relevant authorities.
This development follows the approval of Pakistan’s first-ever space policy by the Caretaker federal cabinet on December 13, 2023. The policy, encapsulated in the National Space Program 2047, underscores the government’s steadfast commitment to advancing space activities within the country.
