Pakistan on High Alert After Israel Remotely Explodes Phone Batteries in Lebanon

Pakistan

Pakistan has heightened its security measures following reports of Israel remotely detonating phone batteries in Lebanon. In response, the Senate Standing Committee for Science and Technology has demanded a detailed briefing on mobile phone testing protocols in Pakistan, fearing similar threats due to unregulated phone imports.

Committee Chairman Kamil Ali Agha questioned the safety of mobile phones in Pakistan, likening untested devices to potential bombs. He called on the Ministry of Science & Technology to ensure the safety of all communication devices in the country.

The committee also touched on issues within the domestic cement sector, with Senator Shibli Faraz highlighting the sector’s unpaid billions. The Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) was summoned to provide records on these arrears amid criticism for ineffective oversight.

Additionally, the Ministry of Science & Technology is currently under review by a Right-Sizing Committee, with possible restructuring on the horizon.
