Several internet users in Pakistan reported issues with connecting to virtual private networks (VPNs), alongside widespread connectivity problems. Users, particularly those of VPN Unlimited and Tunnelbear, faced difficulties accessing their VPN services, with reports of slow speeds and restricted access.
Outage tracking platform Downdetector recorded a peak of 10 reports from VPN Unlimited users by 6:15 pm, while Tunnelbear users continued to face issues until 7:29 pm. Many users took to social media to share which VPNs were still functioning and complained about the inability to access certain services.

VPNs are commonly used in Pakistan to access restricted websites, including X (formerly Twitter), which remains banned in the country. In recent months, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has stepped up efforts to block VPN access in a bid to enforce the ban on X. The government has justified the ban, citing national security concerns and the platform’s alleged use by separatist and terrorist groups.
Despite official denials from the PTA regarding the complete blocking of VPNs, reports of restricted access have persisted, with users noting improved speeds when using VPNs compared to non-VPN connections.
