WhatsApp is set to roll out an exciting new feature that allows users to personalize their chat backgrounds with a variety of vibrant colors. This update represents a shift from the app’s traditional dark green theme, providing users with a fresh and customizable messaging experience.
According to Wabetainfo, this feature will be included in the upcoming WhatsApp for iOS 24.20.71 update. Users will have access to a palette of 20 different colors, allowing for a total of 22 unique themes to choose from. This customization enables users to tailor their chats according to personal preferences, enhancing their overall experience.

In the app settings, users can select a default chat theme to keep a consistent look across all conversations or choose different themes for specific chats, effectively distinguishing between personal, work, and group discussions. WhatsApp will also set a wallpaper that matches the chosen message color, ensuring a cohesive visual aesthetic.
Crucially, while users can customize their chat themes, these changes will not affect how conversations appear on other participants’ devices, allowing everyone to maintain their own preferences. This feature is currently available to a limited number of users through the App Store and TestFlight app for beta participants, with a wider rollout expected in the coming weeks.
