Terrorist Group TTP Declares 'Azm-e-Shariat' Campaign To Intensify Assaults In Pakistan

The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has launched a new military campaign named ‘Azm-e-Shariat’ in response to Pakistan’s ‘Operation Azm-e-Istehkam’, which aims to counter terrorism with airstrikes in Afghanistan targeting groups accused of attacking Pakistani armed forces and civilians. This escalation follows Pakistan’s announcement of the security operation.

According to a report, TTP initiated its new operation after Pakistan’s declaration of ‘Azm-e-Istehkam’. Despite TTP’s efforts to bolster political legitimacy through establishing a political office and appointing a head of the political commission, Pakistan remains unwilling to engage in talks with groups responsible for severe attacks on civilians.

Pakistan’s current military operation prioritizes implementing a revised national action plan rather than solely relying on kinetic operations, experts noted. Islamabad’s actions have strained relations with the Afghan Taliban government, which criticizes the airstrikes as violations of sovereignty.

Pakistan accuses Afghan-based groups of conducting cross-border attacks and claims it has repeatedly urged Afghanistan to take action against them.
