Meta’s Threads platform, which is considered a rival to X, could be introducing a Trending Topics section soon. The news surfaced when an app developer shared screenshots of the feature, originally posted by a Meta employee.

According to the developer, William Max, who clarified that he is not a leaker, he came across the screenshots shared by a Meta employee accidentally. In the images, the feature displayed trending topics based on the number of threads, similar to the feature on X (formerly Twitter). The topics, however, were not necessarily ranked from most popular to least and were located near the search tab.
While trending topics have been a significant feature on social media platforms, they have posed challenges in the past. Facebook discontinued the feature in 2018 due to controversies related to the spread of conspiracy theories and misinformation. Similarly, X has faced issues with spam bots dominating the section with specific agendas.
