According to Ajmal Khan, the facility’s incharge, nearly 150 copies of the Quran and ancient pages were taken after the thieves broke the protective glass cases inside a tunnel.
A formal case has been filed at the Bori police station against the unidentified perpetrators, but no arrests have been made so far.
Jabal Noor-ul-Quran, constructed in 1992, features a tunnel carved into the mountain where ancient Quranic copies and pages of martyrs were stored.
The site has become a renowned shrine visited by hundreds of thousands of people since two brothers dedicated it to the holy book of Islam. Some of the stolen manuscripts are believed to be as old as 600 years.
