Karachi University Students Develop World’s Smallest Nebuliser

Final-year students from the Pharmacy Department at the University of Karachi have unveiled the world’s smallest rechargeable nebuliser, designed to offer portable respiratory therapy for individuals with breathing problems.

The compact device, measuring less than an inch in width, can run for up to 35 minutes on a single charge, which lasts for two days. Made from eco-friendly bioplastics, it is ideal for use in offices or while traveling.

Equipped with micro-USB and USB-C charging options, the wireless, soundproof nebuliser provides discreet and portable respiratory assistance. Group leader Abdul Rahman pointed out that traditional nebulisers are bulky, noisy, and cost between Rs 8,000 and Rs 10,000, while their device is priced under Rs 2,000.

The team hopes their affordable and environmentally-friendly device will make respiratory therapy more accessible, particularly for children and elderly patients with asthma or chest infections. The nebuliser was created by Abdul Rahman Siddiqui, Taha Ishaq, Syed Waliuddin, Syeda Arshiya, Zohaib Salman, Maham Zaidi, Priyan Khan, and Tuba Saleem, who aim to address critical healthcare issues in Pakistan.
