Two 'Terrorists' Carry Out Bomb Attack in Ankara, Turkey

In Ankara, Turkey, the country’s interior minister announced that a bomb attack took place in front of government ministry buildings on a Sunday. The minister stated that two individuals were involved in the attack: one of them died due to the explosion, while the other was subdued by authorities.

Prior to this, Turkish media had reported an explosion near parliament and ministerial buildings, with television broadcasts showing debris strewn across a nearby street close to the Interior Ministry.

At least police officers were injured in the explosion, officials confirmed.

Reuters video footage depicted a scene in Turkey’s capital where soldiers, ambulances, fire trucks, and an armored vehicle were assembled near the city center. Police had cordoned off several nearby roads in response to the incident.

Ali Yerlikaya, the interior minister, used the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to report that the incident occurred at 9:30 AM. According to his statement, two police officers sustained minor injuries in the attack. Yerlikaya explained, “Two terrorists arrived at the entrance gate of the General Directorate of Security of our Ministry of Internal Affairs in a light commercial vehicle and carried out a bomb attack.”

In his statement, Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that one of the terrorists detonated himself, and the other was “neutralised,” which typically implies that the second individual was killed by security forces. Yerlikaya also expressed determination, stating, “Our efforts will persist until every terrorist is eliminated.”

The chief prosecutor of Ankara initiated an investigation into the incident, classifying it as a terrorist attack.

It’s worth noting that authorities did not specify any particular militant group responsible for the attack at the time of the statement.
