Notably, the bill grants President Joe Biden the authority to reject asylum seekers if illegal border crossings surpass 5,000 per week. Despite the bipartisan negotiations and White House support, the bill’s fate remains uncertain, particularly in the Republican-controlled House, where Speaker Mike Johnson has declared it “dead on arrival.”
